Guwahati, March 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Thursday that fighter jets will soon be capable of landing on the state's national highways.
The state government is making preparations to implement this initiative later this year.
While addressing the press after a Cabinet meeting in Dibrugarh, CM Sarma stated, "We are enhancing the national highway connecting Dibrugarh and Jorhat to comply with international standards. Soon, Indian Air Force fighter aircraft will be able to land on this highway. Assam will see numerous significant advancements this year."
In a subtle reference to the Opposition, the Chief Minister remarked, "Certain individuals criticize our efforts when we talk about developmental projects, but the reality is that our government is diligently working on initiatives such as the construction of underwater tunnels and highways of international standard. These progressions will be evident within a year."
Along with infrastructure upgrades, CM Sarma also disclosed plans to enhance business activity in Assam.
During the Cabinet meeting, it was decided that shops in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar will be permitted to operate 24 hours a day.
In other urban areas, businesses can now function until 2 a.m.
"Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar are municipal corporations, and the Cabinet has sanctioned round-the-clock business operations in these cities. Previously, the state government enforced a weekly closure for shops, but this restriction has now been lifted, enabling businesses to operate throughout the week," the Chief Minister elaborated.
In rural regions, businesses can now remain open until 11 p.m.
Emphasizing the welfare of workers, Chief Minister Sarma noted that no business can compel employees to work beyond nine hours per day.
"Employees in small enterprises cannot exceed 48 working hours per week, with shifts limited to nine hours daily. For shops operating 24 hours, owners must employ at least three workers to manage three shifts, each lasting no more than eight or nine hours," the CM explained.
This initiative, he added, is aimed at generating employment within small businesses.
CM Sarma expressed confidence that the new pro-business regulations would stimulate economic growth, particularly during festive occasions like Bihu and Puja.
