Mumbai, June 7 (NationPress) Filmmaker Manish Gupta has been charged with stabbing and assaulting his former driver due to a salary conflict in Mumbai, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.

Gupta, recognized for his direction in films such as '420 IPC', was interrogated shortly after driver Rajibul Islam Lashkar, 32, lodged a complaint at the Versova Police Station.

The complaint states that the stabbing incident occurred at Gupta's office in the Sagar Sanjog building on Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m.

Gupta's attorney, Dinesh Tiwari, informed IANS, "We will demonstrate to the police that the entire case is fabricated based on the evidence gathered by my client. We assert that no stabbing occurred at that time..."

Tiwari alleged that the complaint was made to extort money from Gupta.

"The stabbing narrative seems to have been fabricated as an afterthought," he stated.

"We will present physical and circumstantial evidence to prove that Gupta was not present at the location of the supposed incident," he added.

The police indicated that Lashkar had been employed with Gupta for three years, earning a monthly salary of Rs 23,000.

Lashkar claimed that during an argument over unpaid wages—specifically, his May salary, which he alleges was not paid when he was terminated on May 30—Gupta attacked him with a kitchen knife.

The driver reported sustaining an injury to the right side of his abdomen during the altercation.

The FIR lodged against the filmmaker encompasses penal offenses under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, addressing issues such as intentionally causing serious harm and provoking a breach of peace.

Lashkar recounted that after returning to work on June 4, he requested his dues on June 5, but Gupta responded with abusive language before attacking him with a knife.

After fleeing Gupta's office, Lashkar took an autorickshaw to a hospital in Vile Parle.

The police are currently reviewing video footage from areas surrounding the Sagar Sanjog Building as part of their investigation into the complaint.
