Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 2 (NationPress) The State Election Commission has officially released the final voters’ list for the forthcoming local body elections in Kerala, which includes a total electorate of 2,83,12,463.
The elections are scheduled to take place later this year.
This updated list reflects changes following a recent ward reorganisation, assigning voters to polling stations in the newly established wards.
According to the statistics, the list consists of 1,33,52,945 men, 1,49,59,242 women, and 276 transgender individuals.
The rolls include those who reached the age of 18 on or before January 1, 2025.
Additionally, it features 2,087 names in the overseas voters’ category, allowing non-resident Keralites to engage in the electoral process.
The final list encompasses 14 districts, covering 17,337 wards in 941 gram panchayats, 3,240 wards in 87 municipalities, and 421 wards in six corporations.
Copies of the voters’ list can be accessed for public verification on the official website sec.kerala.gov.in, as well as at local self-government institutions, taluk offices, and village offices.
Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) finalized the rolls after reviewing applications and objections submitted until August 12 regarding the draft list and conducting hearings.
The draft, released on July 23 as part of the summary revision, recorded 2,66,78,256 electors.
During the revision, the Commission processed 29,81,310 applications for new enrollments, 13,859 correction requests, and 1,80,789 applications for transfers of wards or polling stations.
Furthermore, 4,88,024 objections were raised for deletions, which were thoroughly assessed prior to finalisation.
A comparison with the 2020 local body elections indicates a notable increase in the electorate.
At that time, the voters’ list included 2,76,56,910 electors, comprising 1,31,72,755 men, 1,44,83,915 women, 240 transgender individuals, and 2,162 overseas voters.
With an increase of over six and a half lakh voters since the previous local elections, the updated rolls illustrate Kerala’s expanding electorate and rising participation.
Officials remarked that the publication of the final list signifies an important milestone in the lead-up to the three-tier local body elections, which represent the largest democratic exercise at the grassroots level in the state.
