Bhopal, March 5 (NationPress) The 16th Central Finance Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Arvind Panagariya, convened discussions with delegates from both rural and urban sectors in Bhopal on Wednesday.

The Commission, headed by Panagariya, arrived in Bhopal to evaluate the financial requirements of the state and the process of tax devolution.

Among the participants representing urban local bodies were four mayors: Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, Satna Mayor Yogesh Tamrakar, Khandwa Mayor Amrita Yadav, and Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai.

In addition, 11 other municipal council and committee heads joined from various districts in Madhya Pradesh.

According to an official, "During the discussions, it was emphasized that the grants allocated to urban local bodies should reflect the fact that Madhya Pradesh houses the highest tribal population in India."

Furthermore, a distinct grant was suggested to promote the integration of technology in enhancing public services amid urbanization efforts.

The delegation is also set to deliberate over the state’s financial necessities during a meeting scheduled at the Kushabhau Thakare convention center in Bhopal on March 6, as stated by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday.

In addition to meetings in Bhopal, the Commission plans to tour other regions of the state to engage with public officials and senior staff from March 5 to March 8, based on official reports.

On March 7, Commission members will be visiting the financial hub of Indore, where they will inspect the biogas facility of the Indore Municipal Corporation and the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Pithampur.

It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh currently garners a 7.85 percent share in Central taxes but is advocating for an increase to approximately 9 percent.

The state ranks third in devolution across the country and has mobilized a dedicated team of senior finance department officials to advocate for a larger share.
