Sajjanar, has cautioned the public to be vigilant regarding phone calls that falsely claim to be from police officers, alleging that their children have been abducted. “Should you receive calls detailing your children's names and featuring audio of them crying, it is crucial to remain calm and not succumb to panic or distress. Feelings of anxiety and fear are becoming advantageous for cybercriminals. To combat these offenses, a combination of alertness and public education is vital,” the Police Commissioner stated on ‘X’ on Sunday.
“Under no circumstances should personal information about your children or relatives be shared on social media. If you receive such alarming calls, promptly notify your local police. You can call the helpline at 1930 or file a report on the National Cyber Crime Portal at cybercrime.gov.in, he further advised.
Sajjanar also shared a recorded call between a scammer impersonating a police officer and a child’s father.
Previously, the Police Commissioner had mentioned a case registered at the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police Station against two YouTube channels for producing inappropriate content involving minors. This case falls under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“The freedom offered by social media does not grant permission to produce any content,” he emphasized. “The police will take stringent measures against those responsible, as dictated by the law.”
