Hyderabad, Oct 12 (NationPress) The Cybercrime Police of Hyderabad apprehended 59 cyber fraudsters from various parts of India and reclaimed Rs 86.64 lakh for the victims during September.
The Cybercrime Police received 320 NCRP complaints, registering 222 FIRs at the Cybercrime Police Station and 106 FIRs at the Zonal Cyber Cells of the Hyderabad City Police.
In a series of targeted operations, the Cybercrime Police detained 59 individuals from eight states. As per the police report, 28 of these individuals were implicated in investment frauds, six in digital frauds, four in part-time investment schemes, two in matrimonial scams, four in credit card fraud, and three in movie piracy.
These suspects were linked to a cumulative 257 cases throughout India, including 74 cases identified within Telangana.
They also had connections to 53 cases in Maharashtra, 38 in Karnataka, 15 in Gujarat, 12 in Delhi, nine each in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, six in Kerala, four each in Bihar, Rajasthan, and Haryana, three each in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal, and two each in Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
The police confiscated 43 mobile devices, nine cheque books, eight passbooks, 23 ATM/Debit Cards, four laptops, one shell company stamp, and 21 SIM Cards.
Of the refunded amount, Rs 58.47 lakh was related to investment fraud, Rs 5.21 lakh to OTP fraud, Rs 13 lakh to impersonation fraud, Rs 12.43 lakh to trading fraud, Rs 50,000 to APK fraud, Rs 2.58 lakh to credit card fraud, and Rs 3.34 lakh to job fraud.
The Cybercrime Police dismantled a significant network involved in movie piracy, arresting five individuals. In June, a complaint was lodged by Yarra Manindra Babu, representing the Anti-Video Piracy Cell of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), Hyderabad, alleging that Telugu films ‘Single’ and ‘Hit’ were pirated and illegally circulated online on their release day.
Five suspects, hailing from Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, were arrested.
Additionally, the Cybercrime Police apprehended two individuals from Maharashtra for digital fraud leading to a victim's death. The victim's son reported that his mother, a retired CSRMO from MN Area Hospital, Malakpet, died on September 8 due to a cardiac arrest triggered by a digital fraud scheme.
She had been harassed through WhatsApp calls by unknown fraudsters impersonating police and other agencies, falsely accusing her of involvement in human trafficking.
They presented forged documents supposedly from the Supreme Court, ED, RBI, and others, extorting Rs 6,60,543 from her Union Bank pension account into an ICICI Bank account.
The relentless intimidation, threats, and psychological harassment subjected her to extreme mental distress, culminating in a heart attack. Even posthumously, the fraudsters continued their harassment via messages and calls.
