FIR Filed Against Mamluk Ur Rahman Barq for Intimidating Power Officials in Sambhal

Sambhal, Dec 19 (NationPress) An FIR has been lodged against Mamluk Ur Rahman Barq, the father of Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq, at Nakhasa police station in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly intimidating officials from the UP Power Department during an inspection.

The complaint was submitted by Santosh Tripathi, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the electricity department, under sections 352, 351(2), and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Previously, the SP’s MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq had been charged by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday for the alleged theft of electricity at his home in the Deepa Sarai locality.

Speaking to the press, Krisha Kumar, the SP of Sambhal, mentioned, "The incident occurred early in the morning at around 7:30 a.m. SDO Santosh Kumar Tripathi and his team were performing an electricity equipment check in the Deepa Sarai area. During this inspection, they visited the residence of Zia Ur Rehman Barq, where he allegedly confronted Tripathi, using abusive language and obstructing official duties."

He added that Barq reportedly threatened the officials, saying, "If the government changes, we will destroy you," along with other inappropriate comments. The electricity department documented the incident on video.

After completing their inspection, the team filed a written complaint at the local police station.

Earlier that day, the UP Power Department, supported by heavy security, conducted a raid at the residence of SP MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq in Sambhal due to suspicions of electricity meter tampering. During the raid, discrepancies were found in two electricity meters at the MP’s residence, revealing that the electricity bill for the previous year indicated zero consumption, despite the presence of air conditioners, ceiling fans, and various other electrical devices.

Santosh Kumar Tripathi, a power department official, validated the findings but declined to comment further until a comprehensive investigation was complete.

In the meantime, Barq’s legal representative, Advocate Kasim Jamal, clarified that the household is equipped with air conditioners, ceiling fans, lights, and a refrigerator. He stated that they pay minimum charges based on the department’s assessment and that the residence also includes solar panels.

He further mentioned that the MP’s family consists of only four members, as his sisters no longer reside there.
