Raids on SP MP's Home by UP Power Department Uncover Meter Tampering Evidence

New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Power Department, supported by extensive security measures, executed a raid at the residence of Samajwadi Party (SP) MP, Zia Ur Rahman Burk in Sambhal. This operation was initiated due to suspicions regarding electricity meter tampering, and evidence of discrepancies was uncovered in two electricity meters located at the MP's residence.
It is anticipated that an FIR will be lodged against him. Officials found that the electricity bills for the previous year indicated zero consumption, which raises serious concerns.
In statements made to the media following the raid, Power Department official Santosh Kumar Tripathi remarked, “We identified air conditioners present in the house, which has been duly noted. However, I cannot provide further comments until a thorough analysis is conducted.”
Legal representative Kasim Jamal, speaking on behalf of Burk, clarified, “The assessment disclosed two air conditioners, 6-7 ceiling fans, lights, and one refrigerator at the residence. We are paying the minimum electricity charges according to the department’s evaluation. The house is also outfitted with solar panels, and the family consists of only four members as the MP’s sisters are married and no longer live here.”
Sambhal ASP Shri Chandra explained, “The Power Department requested security for their examination, and we ensured that the procedure was executed without any issues.”
Previously, the department had replaced older meters at Burk’s home, sealing them and forwarding them to the laboratory for analysis. The MP’s residence, covering 200 square yards, was initially outfitted with a 4-kilowatt meter, which was considered inadequate.
For the meter replacement operation, a team of 5-6 Power Department personnel, accompanied by armed security forces and tear gas, was dispatched to manage any potential disruptions during the procedure.
