Patna, May 15 (NationPress) Two FIRs have been filed against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, for allegedly conducting an event without the necessary approval from the local administration in Bihar’s Darbhanga on Thursday.
During his roughly nine-hour visit to Bihar, Rahul Gandhi attended the NSUI's 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' program at the Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, reportedly without securing the required permissions from the district authorities.
Although the administration had permitted the event to be held at the Town Hall, Rahul Gandhi proceeded with the program at the Ambedkar hostel, where he spoke to Dalit students for about 15 minutes.
This action prompted a swift reaction from the authorities.
Subsequently, two FIRs were lodged against Rahul Gandhi and several other Congress leaders.
The first FIR was filed at the Laheriyasarai police station by Duty Magistrate Khurshid Alam, who was on-site. This complaint cites a breach of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaces the previous Section 144 of the IPC.
The second FIR was submitted by District Welfare Officer Alok Kumar, accusing Rahul Gandhi and others of unlawfully organizing an event at the Ambedkar Welfare Hostel without official consent.
The police have identified 20 Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, in the FIRs, along with 100 unidentified individuals.
Senior officials, such as Darbhanga Sadar SDPO Amit Kumar and Sadar SDM Vikas Kumar, confirmed that both cases have been registered.
Following the event, Rahul Gandhi traveled to Patna, where he attended a screening of the film Phule at City Centre Mall, before returning to Delhi.
