Raebareli's Additional Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, addressed the media, stating that efforts are ongoing to identify and capture more individuals responsible for the brutal killing of the Dalit youth, with searches being conducted at their residences.
Emphasizing the police's commitment to handling the case with extreme sensitivity, he mentioned that viral CCTV footage related to the incident is currently under examination by law enforcement.
During the briefing regarding the tragic demise of 38-year-old Dalit man Hari Om, he revealed, 'On October 2, a semi-nude body was found at the Ishwar Daspur railway halt within the Unchahar Kotwali area. The deceased was identified as Hari Om, a resident of Fatehpur Kotwali. His body exhibited visible injuries.'
The Additional SP further disclosed that police personnel stationed in the area have also faced consequences for negligence and failure to act appropriately.
'A sub-inspector has been suspended due to neglect of duty; two beat constables have also been dismissed. In total, five officers, including an inspector, have been suspended,' he informed the press.
The lynching incident has ignited a significant political debate, with the Congress party asserting a total collapse of law and order under the BJP administration.
A video capturing the incident has gone viral, depicting men surrounding Hari Om and brutally attacking him on allegations of being part of a gang marking houses for theft.
The chief of police also urged social media users to refrain from believing rumors and false assertions.
'The victim is from the Dalit community, but the accused include individuals from both forward and backward castes. They are criminals, and caste should not be the only factor considered in this violent attack,' he stated.
