Seville (Spain), July 1 (NationPress) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman engaged in a series of bilateral discussions during the International Business Forum Leadership Summit here, focusing on collaboration in vital sectors such as defence, education, technology, and agriculture.
During her meetings, she connected with Dr. Shane Reti, New Zealand's Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, where they explored joint interests in defence, education, technology, and agriculture. They emphasized shared values of democracy, rule of law, and strong people-to-people connections.
The Finance Minister highlighted the outstanding opportunities at GIFT-IFSC in terms of banking, bullion exchange, capital markets, FinTech, and insurance sectors.
“She pointed out that educational exchange is a key element of the India-New Zealand relationship, with numerous Indian students pursuing higher education in New Zealand,” as per a post on X by the Finance Ministry.
Dr. Reti acknowledged the necessity of enhancing educational ties and shared New Zealand's approach to engaging with the Pacific region.
The Finance Minister also underscored India’s strong partnerships with Pacific Island Countries and expressed enthusiasm for increased cooperation with New Zealand through the Pacific Islands Forum.
Additionally, she met with Elmer Schialer Salcedo, Foreign Minister of Peru, on the sidelines of the ‘FFD4’ meeting.
The two leaders deliberated on strengthening strategic alliances in FinTech, trade, investment, mining, and defence, along with the potential for collaboration in infrastructure projects, particularly railways, as per an official statement.
FM Sitharaman noted India's proficiency in constructing rail links and manufacturing rolling stock. Salcedo expressed eagerness for India's involvement in international bids for three rail links under development in Peru.
The Finance Minister conveyed India’s desire to diversify exports to Peru, focusing on automobiles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, engineering goods, and IT services, while also valuing imports of essential minerals like copper and lithium from Peru, which are vital for India’s energy transition and industrial development.
She also met with Germany’s Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan, congratulating her on her recent role as Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
They explored various collaborative avenues under the India-Germany Green and Sustainable Development Partnership, including green energy, urban mobility, and sustainable livelihoods through ecological practices.
