Amaravati, Dec 11 (NationPress) A court located in Macherla, part of the Palnadu district, has ordered the judicial custody of former YSRCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy along with his brother Venkatarami Reddy for a period of 14 days in connection with a double-murder case involving TDP workers.
Following the Supreme Court's directives, the Pinnelli siblings reported to the Junior Additional Civil Judge.
Subsequently, they were remanded to custody and moved to Nellore Jail.
In late November, the Supreme Court dismissed their pleas for anticipatory bail and instructed their surrender to the lower court within two weeks.
In light of potential disturbances, police established extensive security measures around the courthouse.
The opposition party, YSR Congress Party, criticized the TDP-led coalition government for confining numerous leaders to their homes before the Pinnelli brothers' surrender. Notably, former minister Vidadala Rajini was also placed under house arrest.
YSRCP leaders asserted that these restrictions were imposed to hinder public expressions of support for the Pinnelli brothers.
Ramakrishna Reddy and Venkatarami Reddy are identified as accused numbers six and seven in the double murder case.
The victims, Javishetti Venkateswarlu and Koteswara Rao, were murdered in May 2025.
Both victims from Gundlapadu village were attacked after their bike was struck by an SUV while returning from a wedding in Telangana. The assailants reportedly dragged them along the road.
Upon realizing one of them was still alive, the attackers brutally struck him with a stone before escaping, abandoning their vehicle.
Following the registration of an FIR naming the Pinnelli brothers, the YSR Congress Party accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of engaging in political vendetta.
YSRCP claimed that the FIR was filed due to pressure from local TDP MLA Julakanti Brahmananda Reddy. They referenced media reports and statements from the district SP, suggesting that the double murder was influenced by internal factional conflicts within the TDP.
Since the TDP-led NDA assumed power last year, the Palnadu Police have maintained records on the Pinnelli brothers for their alleged criminal activities during the general elections.
The former MLA has been implicated in 14 criminal cases, while his brother has been named in over six.
Additionally, during the election process, the former MLA was accused of damaging an electronic voting machine (EVM) at a polling station in the Macherla Assembly constituency.
An agent from TDP attempted to intervene, but later, Ramakrishna Reddy was alleged to have plotted to murder the agent on the same day.
A police complaint was filed regarding this incident as well.
