Patna, July 27 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, at least four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, sustained serious injuries during a mob attack in Lakdakol village, located under the Pirpainti police station jurisdiction of Bhagalpur district on Friday night.
The police were conducting an operation based on intelligence related to a kidnapping case.
The confrontation erupted when Sub-Inspector Devguru of the Kahalgaon police station and four officers in civilian attire arrived at the village in a private vehicle for a raid.
Authorities reported that they were tracing the location of a mobile phone associated with the alleged kidnapping of Vijay Bhagat, a resident of Sanhaula.
Upon their arrival, the villagers mistakenly identified the plainclothes officers as criminals and launched an attack.
SI Devguru was severely injured in the head while attempting to escape and was subsequently admitted in critical condition to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Kahalgaon NTPC.
Following the incident, another police team led by SI Shatrughan Kumar, NTPC SHO Sushil Kumar, and SDPO Kalyan Anand rushed to the location.
Unfortunately, they also encountered stone pelting and mob violence, which forced them to retreat, abandoning their shoes and damaged vehicles.
SHO Sushil Kumar suffered a hand injury during the chaos, alongside injuries to two other officers.
The police operation was linked to the kidnapping of Vijay Bhagat, who had been abducted earlier that day from Sabour market while heading to Bhagalpur.
His family had filed a kidnapping report at Sanhaula police station and later received a ransom demand of Rs 40 lakh for his safe return. The police were able to trace the mobile location to Lakdakol village.
A joint task force from Kahalgaon, NTPC, and Sanhaula police stations was established under SDPO Kalyan Anand.
The initial group led by SI Devguru, which included the victim’s family, was assaulted by villagers, followed by violence directed at the second reinforcement team.
Authorities confirmed that the kidnapped youth, Vijay Bhagat, was rescued unharmed, although the main suspect, Rajesh Yadav, managed to escape amid the turmoil.
SDPO Kalyan Anand remarked, “We have currently identified 10-12 individuals and are in the process of identifying an additional 40-50 villagers involved in the assault.”
“Further investigations and legal actions are ongoing,” he added.
