Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Jan 9 (NationPress) In a significant operation, security forces apprehended four Rohingyas who had illegally entered India in Assam’s Cachar district on Friday, according to officials.
As per police reports, the group, which included two women, was detained in the Katigorah locality after crossing the international border without authorization.
The authorities discovered forged documents, including refugee cards, in their possession.
The four individuals were subsequently taken into police custody.
Recently, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a renewed focus on combating illegal infiltration, asserting that Assam will not serve as a haven for undocumented foreigners.
CM Sarma emphasized that the state had executed a large-scale “push-back” operation in 2025 aimed at deporting illegal Bangladeshi nationals, a campaign that will intensify in the upcoming year.
“In 2026, we will be relentless in our efforts and push back even more. Assam will not be a breeding ground for illegal immigrants,” he stated.
The Chief Minister has consistently warned that illegal infiltration threatens Assam’s demographic balance, social stability, and internal security.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting the rights of indigenous populations while enforcing the law without exception.
CM Sarma has previously indicated that infiltration has long posed a challenge for Assam, especially in border areas, and criticized past governments for their inadequate responses.
He credited recent administrative actions, enhanced border surveillance, and improved collaboration between state police and central security forces for bolstered enforcement.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the government's dedication to fully implementing the Assam Accord, which includes measures for detecting, deleting, and deporting illegal foreigners.
He emphasized that preserving Assam’s cultural identity, land rights, and demographic integrity remains a top priority for his administration.
