Guwahati, Jan 28 (NationPress) Assam Police thwarted yet another infiltration attempt by Bangladeshi nationals on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including a woman, who were subsequently returned to their home country, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Chief Minister attributed this success to the heightened vigilance of security forces. In a post on X, he noted, “Strict vigilance along the border continues. In an alert move by @assampolice, 3 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended near the border trying to illegally cross in.”
The individuals have been identified as Hubha S, Mithun S, and Pinki Molla. The Chief Minister added: “All 3 have been pushed back to Bangladesh.”
Earlier on the same day, CM Sarma accused Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, and extremist groups in Bangladesh of attempting to re-establish their operations amid political changes in the neighboring nation.
He stated: “Efforts are underway to forge an alliance between the ISI and local entities in Bangladesh, but the people of Assam advocate for peace and will not succumb to their influence. We are apprehending infiltrators daily. We are surveilling the Brahmaputra utilizing modern technology.”
CM Sarma assured that the state's border security is strong, owing to nearly complete fencing along its borders with Bangladesh. He highlighted ongoing surveillance through advanced technology and dismissed worries about potential intrusions, especially with the reported attempts by ISI and certain Bangladeshi groups to collaborate.
“There is no opportunity for them to enter Assam as the border is nearly fenced,” CM Sarma reiterated, underscoring the efficacy of the fencing and vigilance along the border. However, he recognized that approximately 10-12 individuals are being sent back to Bangladesh on average since the political changes in the neighboring country. The issue of illegal border crossings has escalated following the political upheaval in Bangladesh with the removal of Sheikh Hasina's government.
Sarma mentioned that the Border Security Force (BSF) has effectively returned thousands of Bangladeshis who attempted to cross into Indian territory unlawfully. Regarding the insurgency situation in Assam, the CM expressed hope for achieving enduring peace.
