Guwahati, March 18 (NationPress) At least two Bangladeshi nationals have been detained and sent back by security forces along the international border in Assam's Sribhumi district due to infiltration, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

In a post on X, CM Sarma remarked, "Decisive measures are being taken against unlawful infiltration. Maintaining their rigorous surveillance along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @sribhumipolice apprehended 2 Bangladeshi nationals and sent them back."

The individuals were recognized as Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar. CM Sarma emphasized that this vigilant monitoring by @assampolice will persist. "Well done," he added.

Previously, the Chief Minister noted that members of the Hindu community migrated from Bangladesh 30 or 40 years ago, while others have remained in the neighboring nation for various reasons.

"Most of the Hindu community who wished to cross into India did so 30 or 40 years back. The remaining minority populations have continued to reside in Bangladesh despite enduring significant atrocities there. They likely have their own motives for staying - perhaps a connection to their homeland or patriotism towards Bangladesh," he stated.

CM Sarma also mentioned that the rate of Bangladeshi infiltration has surged in recent months, attributed to the downfall of the textile sector in Bangladesh, which has left many unemployed.

He pointed out that the economy of Bangladesh has faced a downturn due to instability, affecting the majority community more severely than the minority group.

"To date, we have detained around 1,000 Bangladeshi individuals in the past few months, and they were immediately sent back post-arrest," the CM revealed.

He also linked the illegal infiltration to incentives provided by certain textile industry entrepreneurs in India.

CM Sarma stated that he discussed the matter of Bangladeshi infiltration with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC).

"I have also talked about these issues with other Chief Ministers of northeastern states," he concluded.
