Kolkata, Nov 22 (NationPress) The police have taken into custody six individuals, four of whom are minors, in relation to the alleged gang-rape of a teenage girl in East Burdwan, West Bengal, as confirmed by a senior police official on Saturday.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested individuals under Sections 70(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

"This case is extremely sensitive, as a minor was assaulted by a group of six; among them, four are minors," stated a senior officer from the East Burdwan district police, affirming the prompt action taken following a complaint from the victim's family.

"We must conduct a thorough investigation. Based on the victim’s family complaint, we registered a case against the six suspects, who were arrested and presented in court yesterday (Friday). The investigation is ongoing," the officer added.

The POCSO court has ordered that two of the accused be held in police custody for ten days, while the four minors were brought before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Investigators are also looking into the involvement of a distant relative, who may be interrogated as needed.

As per police reports, this disturbing incident took place when the teenage girl left her home with a distant relative around 9:30 p.m. last Monday. Two of the accused allegedly assaulted them, forcibly dragging them into a nearby bamboo grove.

It is reported that the four minor suspects were present during the alleged incident.

The assailants threatened the girl's relative, instructing her to leave the area. After the crime, they warned the victim against informing her family, as per police statements.

A few days later, the family grew concerned upon noticing the girl’s distress. Upon further questioning, she recounted the entire traumatic event.

A formal complaint was lodged at the police station on Thursday, identifying all six suspects. The police arrested them on Friday and presented two in court.
