Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others tragically perished in a plane crash near Baramati. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the unfortunate incident.
As elections for the Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis are underway, Ajit Pawar was en route from Mumbai to Baramati for a public gathering when the plane went down during its landing approach. Visuals from the crash site reveal flames and smoke, with emergency services rapidly transporting the injured to local hospitals. Bystanders were seen attempting to provide assistance at the wreckage.
This incident occurred around 9 a.m., shortly after takeoff from Mumbai.
Emergency response teams and senior security personnel were dispatched to the Baramati scene immediately after the aircraft lost control during its landing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences, referring to Pawar as “a leader of the people with a strong connection to grassroots.”
