Jaipur, April 29 (NationPress) Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, declared on Tuesday that he will not hold birthday festivities on May 3 in honor of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. In a post on social media, Gehlot expressed his solidarity with those affected by the tragic incident in which 26 individuals lost their lives.
He stated, "The despicable terrorist attack in Pahalgam has left us profoundly saddened and heartbroken. What should have been a joyous occasion for numerous families has tragically transformed into an unbearable memory of grief and suffering. The thought of the trauma experienced by those who witnessed their loved ones being taken away is truly heartbreaking."
In response to this calamity, Gehlot has chosen to forgo his birthday celebrations this year. He encouraged all his supporters and well-wishers to convert any planned events into acts of service, such as organizing blood donation drives or participating in meaningful community endeavors, and to avoid any celebratory gatherings.
"This is my sincere tribute to the innocent lives lost and a demonstration of solidarity with the mourning families. In this moment of grief, the entire nation comes together in support and compassion," Gehlot further remarked.
The attack occurred on April 22, 2025, when terrorists targeted a group of tourists in the picturesque Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.
This incident marked the first significant terror attack on civilians in Kashmir since the revocation of J&K’s special status in 2019.
One of the victims, a Jaipur resident named Neeraj, lost his life during the attack. He was in Pahalgam with his wife when the assailants opened fire. Neeraj, who was a CA in Dubai, had returned to Jaipur to attend a family wedding. He had been married for two years and is survived by his wife, brother, and mother.
