New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticized the Opposition on Wednesday, claiming they are creating confusion regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar as the state approaches the Assembly elections. He accused them of obstructing parliamentary proceedings.
His comments followed the release of Bihar’s draft electoral roll by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after completing the first phase of the SIR.
The electoral body noted that, amid political turmoil, no objections were raised by any political party concerning the draft roll, casting doubt on the Opposition's claims.
In an interview with IANS, Giriraj Singh stated, “It is profoundly unfortunate that Parliament is being disrupted, and confusion is being spread across the nation. The Election Commission has provided numerous clarifications on the SIR. As of August 6, no political party has officially lodged any objection. This reveals the Opposition's true motives.”
He further accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav of “merely disparaging the Election Commission without participating in the formal democratic process.”
“Nothing could be more unfortunate than this,” he told IANS.
Earlier today, the ECI confirmed that as of 9 A.M. on August 6, no political party had submitted objections or claims regarding the draft electoral roll published on August 1. However, the poll panel reported receiving 3,659 claims and objections directly from voters. Additionally, 19,186 forms were submitted by newly eligible voters.
Previously, the ECI suspended seven Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Bihar for gross negligence during the SIR process.
The suspensions were enacted by the Patna District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate effective immediately, due to their absence from duty, non-compliance with guidelines, and making decisions without consulting senior officials.
The suspended BLOs include Mamta Singh, Anupama, Aarti Kumari, and Minnie Kumari from the Fatuha Assembly constituency, as well as Jitendra Kumar Chaudhary, Ashwini Kumar, and Ram Ratan Kumar from the Mokama constituency.
The District Magistrate stressed that “any form of laxity, negligence, or irregularity in the electoral revision process will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
In the meantime, special camps have been established at both block and district levels throughout Bihar to address complaints stemming from the SIR process. These camps, operational since August 2, are working diligently to resolve voter issues efficiently and transparently.
