A university named after one of Bihar's most celebrated poets is finally taking shape. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced on Thursday, 24 September 2026 that the proposed Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar' Vishwavidyalaya in Begusarai will have a distinctive identity — and that classes will begin in an interim building even before its permanent 15-acre campus is ready.

In his post, Singh wrote: 'बेगूसराय में बनने वाले रामधारी सिंह 'दिनकर' विश्वविद्यालय का स्वरूप खास होगा' — 'The character of the Ramdhari Singh Dinkar University to be built in Begusarai will be special.' He confirmed that an alternative building will be operationalised for academic activity while the permanent campus is under construction, and that the university will offer postgraduate degrees, research programmes, and advanced higher education opportunities for students.

₹15 crore seed grant clears the first hurdle

Crucially, Singh disclosed that an initial financial sanction of ₹15 crore has been approved for the salaries and establishment costs of the university's officers and staff. That first cheque matters: it transforms a named announcement into a functioning institution with a payroll. The money signals that bureaucratic groundwork — recruitment, administration, academic planning — can now begin in earnest.

Anchoring a research university to his name in his home district is both a tribute and a statement — that Begusarai's intellectual heritage deserves institutional expression.
