Ranchi, March 27 (NationPress) Two government officials were apprehended in Jharkhand on Thursday during independent raids led by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting bribes.

In Lohardaga district, registry office computer clerk Dilip Kumar was taken into custody while he was accepting Rs 5,000 from a raiyat (landowner). In the Itkhori block of Chatra district, employment servant Umesh Kumar was also caught soliciting Rs 5,000 as a bribe from a villager.

Alimuddin, a local from the Bagdu police station area in Lohardaga, filed a complaint with the ACB, stating that Dilip Kumar demanded a bribe to facilitate his land lease. "When I refused to comply, he halted my work processing," Alimuddin expressed.

Following the complaint verification, the ACB orchestrated a sting operation. When Alimuddin delivered the bribe at the registry office, officials immediately detained Dilip Kumar.

In Chatra, Umesh Kumar, who is in charge of Nawada and Dhankheri panchayats in Itkhori, allegedly asked for Rs 26,000 from Vinod Singh, a villager, for processing payment related to fencing work under the MGNREGA scheme. Singh reported the incident to the Hazaribagh ACB Superintendent of Police.

As part of the ACB's strategy, Singh consented to pay Rs 5,000 as an initial installment. The payment was set to occur at a shop in Itkhori market. Upon Umesh Kumar accepting the money, ACB officials promptly arrested him.

In just the past month, seven individuals have been detained in bribery-related cases by various state and central investigative agencies.

On March 19, the CBI arrested Sahil Ratusaria, a garrison engineer in the Indian Defence Service of Engineers, while he was taking a bribe of Rs 40,500 from a contractor.

A subsequent raid at his home resulted in the recovery of Rs 80 lakh in cash, jewelry worth Rs 50 lakh, and investment papers exceeding Rs 2 crore. Office cashier Philip Jalco was also apprehended in connection with this case.

On March 18, the ACB caught Abhijeet Chail, the supply officer for Ranchi’s Tamar block, receiving a Rs 10,000 bribe from a PDS dealer.

On February 28, Sub-Inspector Rishikant, stationed at Kotwali police station in Ranchi, was caught accepting Rs 5,000 within the police premises in return for releasing a confiscated mobile device.
