Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Andhra Pradesh apprehended two police officials on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh at a police station located in YSR Kadapa district.
The officials were caught in the act at the Simhadripuram Police Station, where N.V. Ramana, the Circle Inspector of Pulivendula Rural Circle, and Dasari Anil Kumar, a Sub-Inspector at the same station, were accepting the illicit payment.
According to sources from the ACB, these officers had allegedly solicited a bribe from an individual involved in chain-snatching crimes.
The accused had reportedly acquired a motorcycle from one Brahmam, who is believed to be part of a syndicate dealing in stolen two-wheelers from Kashmir, which had their registration numbers tampered with.
This motorcycle was allegedly used in chain-snatching incidents, with suspicions that the individual was involved in stealing gold chains valued at around Rs 15 lakh.
After receiving intelligence regarding the suspect's operations, the police officers purportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh in return for favorable treatment in the ongoing investigation.
The accused initially complied with their demands, paying part of the sum the previous Saturday. However, as the officers started to exert pressure for the balance, he reached out to the ACB to file a complaint.
Following this report, the ACB set up a sting operation, instructing the complainant to deliver Rs 3 lakh to the Sub-Inspector at the police station.
Upon receiving the bribe, ACB agents intervened and caught Sub-Inspector Dasari Anil Kumar red-handed, while N.V. Ramana was also taken into custody in connection with the case.
The ACB has launched an extensive investigation into the incident.
In a separate development in Ichchapuram, Srikakulam district, ACB officials apprehended Mandal Education Officer (MEO) Kurmana Apparao and Data Entry Operator Uppada Kameswara Rao for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a retired teacher.
Additionally, a Village Revenue Officer (VRO), identified as R. Chittibabu from Savaravalli village in Vizianagaram district, was also caught in the act while allegedly soliciting a bribe from a complainant.
Last month, ACB Director General Atul Singh stated that the bureau would enhance its informant network to root out corrupt officials across various departments and bolster anti-corruption efforts.
Official records indicate that the ACB handled 115 cases in 2025, which included 69 trap cases, 8 disproportionate assets cases, 7 criminal misconduct cases, 19 regular inquiries, and 12 surprise inspections.
