New Delhi, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, announced on Thursday that the Department of Consumer Affairs has successfully resolved 3,981 GST-related complaints and queries through the National Consumer Helpline.
He stated, "The CCPA is diligently overseeing consumer grievances—ensuring transparency, shielding consumers from misinformation, and ensuring that the advantages of GST reforms genuinely benefit every citizen in India."
Furthermore, the minister indicated that GST authorities are taking necessary measures wherever tax benefits are not being transferred to consumers.
Consumers can utilize various platforms including helpline number 1915, the NCH, UMANG apps, as well as WhatsApp and SMS services available in 17 languages to report instances where GST rate cuts are not being passed down. An official statement affirmed the government’s commitment to provide necessary support to all consumers.
The government has also begun scrutinizing e-commerce platforms to monitor the pricing of essential FMCG products such as shampoos and pulses, ensuring that the benefits from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cuts reach consumers appropriately, as reported by a source on Tuesday.
Government authorities are evaluating compliance with pricing standards to confirm that consumers are reaping the benefits from tax reductions.
According to government data, India’s GST revenues saw a year-on-year increase of 9.1 percent in September, amounting to Rs 1.89 lakh crore.
This represents the highest growth rate in four months, continuing a trend of monthly inflows exceeding Rs 1.8 lakh crore for nine consecutive months. Notably, this growth rate has outpaced the 6.5 percent increase seen in August.
Interestingly, this surge occurred even amidst reduced consumer spending on non-durable goods, with many consumers delaying purchases in anticipation of GST rate cuts.
Recognizing the need to bolster domestic growth amidst increasing external sector risks, the government has initiated a rationalization of the GST regime. This strategy aims to ease the tax burden on consumers, stimulate consumption, and soften the impacts of tariffs. Furthermore, it is expected to enhance demand visibility for businesses, encouraging investments in expanding capacities.
