Mumbai, June 13 (NationPress) Calling the Ahmedabad air crash ‘alarming’, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut emphasized the necessity of identifying those accountable for the tragedy that resulted in the loss of 241 lives aboard the London-bound Air India flight.
“Is there no one to take responsibility? Will this incident simply be dismissed as an accident?” Raut questioned during a press conference.
The government cannot evade its obligations by labeling it as just an accident. “The purpose of the government is to prevent such tragedies and protect lives,” he asserted, amplifying the ongoing blame game surrounding the incident.
He further stated, “The government cannot absolve itself merely by categorizing it as an accident. Who was behind the airline’s privatization? The government acknowledged its inability to manage the airline, so who is to blame?”
“Someone must be held accountable for this incident. A plane crashed just 30 seconds after take-off, right before our eyes, resulting in fatalities,” he added.
“Did both engines fail, or was there something else amiss on board? The truth must be revealed,” he urged.
The Shiv Sena leader also criticized the BJP for casting doubt on the Boeing Dreamliner deal made during the UPA regime.
“Those responsible for this tragedy should have stepped down out of moral obligation. In past incidents, we’ve called for resignations of ministers. Yet, they refuse to acknowledge their failures,” he remarked.
Raut’s pointed remarks come as some Opposition figures have begun to demand an investigation into the incident by a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge.
Amidst the political turmoil regarding the air crash, Congress leader Udit Raj launched a fierce critique of India’s aviation safety protocols, alleging that a Director at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) possesses a fraudulent degree, contributing to the oversight failures that led to the disaster.
In an interview with IANS, Udit Raj claimed, "The DGCA director’s credentials are fake. Such tragedies are bound to occur when individuals with forged degrees are responsible for safety standards. Sikkim University has confirmed that his degree is a forgery. A Public Interest Litigation has also been filed in the High Court. When unqualified personnel occupy key positions in civil aviation, accidents are unavoidable.”
The ill-fated Air India Dreamliner took off from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, June 12, en route to Gatwick, London, but tragically crashed mere moments later into a residential area, marking one of the worst aviation disasters in recent history.
Along with the 241 casualties aboard the aircraft, numerous local residents also suffered fatalities due to the crash. The government has initiated an investigation into this tragic event.
