What Actions Are Being Taken After the Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad?

New Delhi, June 13 (NationPress) In the wake of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, the government has embarked on a thorough investigation into this calamity.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who quickly arrived at the crash scene from Vijayawada, confirmed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been designated to spearhead the inquiry.

“In response to the unfortunate event in Ahmedabad, a formal inquiry has been launched by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), adhering to the international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Furthermore, the government is forming a high-level committee comprising specialists from various fields to conduct a detailed examination of the incident. This committee aims to bolster aviation safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the Minister declared on his X handle.

The AAIB, operating under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is India's official body responsible for investigating major aviation incidents, adhering to global regulations set forth by the ICAO.

The unfortunate Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, designated as Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London, tragically crashed shortly after take-off, impacting a residential area near BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad.

Prior to the crash, the aircraft had sent out a distress signal, and investigators are now focused on retrieving the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder—commonly referred to as black boxes—to piece together the final moments of the flight.

Minister Naidu stressed that the government is not confining its actions to standard procedures. A multidisciplinary high-level committee is being formed to delve into the broader consequences of the crash.

This panel will include experts in aviation safety, engineering, air traffic control, and representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Their responsibilities extend beyond identifying the immediate cause of the accident; they are also expected to propose systemic reforms aimed at enhancing safety measures, emergency readiness, and aircraft maintenance oversight. Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, has pledged its full cooperation with Indian authorities.

A technical team from the company is anticipated to assist in the investigation, which will also incorporate international observers in accordance with ICAO guidelines.

The AAIB has already secured the crash site and initiated the collection of forensic evidence, which includes mapping the wreckage, analyzing terrain impact, and gathering witness testimonies.

As the nation grieves, the swift mobilization of investigative and relief efforts by the government signifies a commitment to transparency, accountability, and a long-term focus on aviation safety.
