New Delhi, June 4 (NationPress) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has embarked on a two-day official trip to Italy as of Wednesday, following his activities in France aimed at reinforcing the economic partnership between India and France.
This segment of his journey underscores India’s dedication to strengthening both strategic and economic relationships with significant European allies, particularly in enhancing bilateral trade and investment with Italy, as stated in an official announcement.
During his visit, Minister Goyal is set to co-chair the 22nd Session of the India–Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) alongside Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.
This engagement is critical at this juncture in India–Italy relations, particularly after the initiation of the India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan (JSAP) 2025–2029. This plan was unveiled following discussions between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024 and focuses primarily on economic collaboration across ten thematic pillars.
The upcoming 22nd JCEC session in Rome will provide both nations the chance to evaluate advancements and explore new collaboration opportunities in crucial sectors such as Industry 4.0, agritech, digitalization, energy transition, sustainable mobility, and the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). These discussions are anticipated to further bolster economic connectivity and cultivate strategic industrial partnerships.
Minister Goyal will also spearhead a high-level Indian business delegation at the India–Italy Growth Forum in Brescia, an important industrial center. This forum aims to connect key businesses and stakeholders from both nations to stimulate investments, foster business-to-business relationships, and identify synergies in innovation and sustainability-focused sectors.
This diplomatic visit signifies the strengthening political will and aligned economic ambitions between India and its European partners, aiming to convert shared leadership visions into sustainable partnerships that fuel inclusive growth, industrial transformation, and global economic resilience, as noted in the statement.
