Gandhinagar, April 20 (NationPress) The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) successfully held its highly awaited examination for Class 1 and Class 2 job opportunities on Sunday across 21 districts in the state.
About 97,000 individuals participated in the preliminary exam, competing for a total of 245 government positions, which include 48 Class 1 and 197 Class 2 vacancies.
To facilitate the examination, 405 exam centres were established across prominent cities such as Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Jamnagar.
In Rajkot, the exam took place in 32 centres with around 7,000 candidates appearing. Entry at all centres began 1 hour and 45 minutes before the exam commenced. Candidates were permitted to bring only transparent water bottles into the examination hall. The question paper was structured for a total of 200 marks.
In Jamnagar, 11 centres facilitated the exam, covering 110 exam blocks and accommodating 2,629 candidates. All centres were outfitted with advanced CCTV cameras for rigorous monitoring. Teams of Class 1 GPSC officials oversaw the procedure, while local police were deployed to ensure safety and order at each centre.
This examination is the first major test following recent reforms to the examination guidelines by the GPSC. The Class 1 and Class 2 assessments are among the most competitive in the state, serving as a pathway to prestigious roles such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mamlatdar, Section Officer, and other critical administrative and executive positions. This year, the GPSC has announced 245 vacancies, comprising 48 Class 1 posts and 197 Class 2 posts.
These roles are allocated across various departments, including General Administration, Home, Revenue, and Panchayat services.
The recruitment process generally involves three phases: a preliminary examination, mains, and a personal interview.
The preliminary exam conducted on Sunday serves as a screening test of 200 marks to narrow down candidates for the mains.
With over 97,000 aspirants contending for a limited number of positions, the level of competition is fierce.
The GPSC’s importance has grown as it strives to ensure merit-based, transparent appointments to essential government services, thereby bolstering good governance and effective public administration throughout Gujarat.
