Ahmedabad, Nov 9 (NationPress) The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken action by arresting three individuals connected to ISIS in Ahmedabad, who were reportedly plotting to execute terrorist attacks nationwide.
The Gujarat ATS indicated that these suspects had been monitored for over a year, and their apprehension occurred as they were allegedly in the process of distributing weapons.
"These terrorists traveled to Gujarat to facilitate a weapons exchange and were believed to be planning assaults at various sites across the country. The suspects are part of two distinct modules, and investigations are in progress to uncover the potential targets and venues they aimed to strike," stated the ATS in an official release.
Authorities confirmed that inquiries are ongoing, with more information expected soon.
Earlier this year, the Gujarat ATS captured five members of the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including a woman from Bengaluru alleged to be running an online terror cell connected to handlers based in Pakistan.
The identified terrorists include Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali, who were apprehended on July 22 for supposedly promoting the radical AQIS ideology via social media.
Authorities also seized an illegal semi-automatic pistol and live ammunition from Zeeshan Ali, a principal suspect in custody.
This weapon was confiscated during a follow-up operation at Zeeshan Ali's residence in Noida, based on information obtained during interrogations.
The operation was spearheaded by Police Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and Police Sub-Inspector A.R. Chaudhary, under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Police Virajeetsinh Parmar.
The group is accused of inciting violence under the banner of "Ghazwa-e-Hind", advocating for an armed revolt against India’s elected government, and promoting violent actions aimed at non-Muslims.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
To further the investigation, the ATS also apprehended Shama Parveen, identified as a crucial player in the module from Bengaluru, on July 27.
