Gandhinagar, Oct 22 (NationPress) On the festive day of Diwali, a six-month-old baby, Shahrukh, was abducted from the outskirts of Panot village near Chhatral Road in Kalol, Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. Fortunately, the local police managed to solve the case within a few hours, locating the suspect and safely returning the child to his family.

According to police reports, Kala Mir and her family were shopping in Kalol and had stopped by a lassi stall near Chhatral Bridge at approximately 2:30 p.m. on October 20.

Kala Mir briefly left to purchase balm from a nearby pharmacy, entrusting her infant son to family members. During this brief absence, an unidentified woman wearing a green saree absconded with the baby towards the bridge.

Upon her return, Kala Mir discovered her child was missing and immediately raised the alarm. Acting quickly, teams from the Kalol Taluka Police, Local Crime Branch (LCB), Special Operations Group (SOG), and Cyber Surveillance units initiated a well-coordinated investigation.

Utilizing CCTV footage and local intelligence, officers identified the suspect as Madhi Nayak, a 40-year-old woman with prior ties to Galaxy Society, Chhatral.

After an extensive 18-hour search employing technical surveillance and informant networks, police successfully located and apprehended Madhiben Nayak in Meda-Adaraj village.

Little Shahrukh was found unharmed and joyfully reunited with his parents. During her interrogation, the accused confessed to abducting the child out of a desperate desire for motherhood.

Following her arrest, the Gandhinagar Police returned the infant to his relieved family, who expressed deep appreciation for the officers' rapid and effective response.

In 2023, Gujarat experienced a troubling rise in child abduction incidents, with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) documenting 734 cases, which included both minors and adults. Alarmingly, 296 of these abductions occurred in Ahmedabad, a significant increase from the 182 cases reported in 2021. The majority of victims were girls aged 12 to 16, often abducted for forced marriages, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.

Point of View

I emphasize the importance of community awareness and police responsiveness in safeguarding our children. The alarming rise in abduction cases in Gujarat underscores the need for collective vigilance and proactive measures to protect our society's most vulnerable.
