Ahmedabad, June 6 (NationPress) The Gujarat Police have established a dedicated team across multiple social media platforms to assist in addressing the concerns of the residents in the state, as per official statements.
This initiative aims to close the gap between public input and governmental response.
Understanding the influence of social media outlets such as X, the state police have initiated the Gujarat Police – Social Media Monitoring, Awareness and Systematic Handling (GP-SMASH), a 24/7 real-time digital oversight and response team.
Launched on March 1, the GP-SMASH program is tailored to tackle public grievances, complaints, suggestions, and even commendations that are tagged to the official X account of the Gujarat Police.
Residents can conveniently tag the X account with their concerns, and the GP-SMASH team ensures that the social media post is reviewed and directed to the relevant district, range, or unit officer for swift action.
According to the State Home Department, within just three months of operation, the GP-SMASH team has handled 335 complaints, resolving 310 of them amicably.
The remaining cases are currently under thorough review.
This system also facilitates real-time tracking of crime-related issues and citizen concerns highlighted on social media.
"Available around the clock, the GP-SMASH team persistently monitors social media posts that mention or tag the Gujarat Police. Whether the issues are related to traffic, law enforcement, cybercrime, bribery, or misconduct by public officials, flagged posts are reviewed within minutes. The appropriate officer is directed to investigate and act on the matter, and updates are provided through replies to the original posts within a set timeframe," officials stated.
"This initiative not only promotes transparency and accountability within the police force but also empowers citizens to engage actively in governance through digital involvement," officials added.
With projects like Digital Gujarat, the state provides over 190 services online, including caste certificates and electricity bill payments, ensuring that vital services are delivered to the populace without bureaucratic hindrances.
The iORA portal (Integrated Online Revenue Applications) has streamlined processes such as land mutation, income certificates, and domicile verification, significantly decreasing the need for in-person visits to government offices.
