Ahmedabad, Oct 27 (NationPress) The Gujarat government is set to observe ‘Vigilance Awareness Week 2025’ throughout the state from October 31 to November 6. This initiative is part of its annual effort to foster transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. This year’s campaign, themed 'Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility', commenced on September 10 and will run until December 9.
The state’s focused drive includes the resolution of pending complaints, capacity-building initiatives, enhanced property management, and digital strategies aimed at improving service delivery.
Numerous government departments, boards, corporations, public enterprises, and local authorities will participate in this observance. Planned activities consist of integrity pledges, awareness initiatives on preventive vigilance, resolution of outstanding matters, system reforms, digital transparency measures, training sessions, and outreach efforts to promote vigilance awareness.
Officials have stressed that vigilance is now more vital than ever for ensuring peace, safety, and integrity within society. The Gujarat Vigilance Commission in Gandhinagar indicated that this week-long observance is in line with the Central Vigilance Commission’s national campaign occurring from October 27 to November 2, 2025.
Gujarat faces a significant challenge with over 40,000 pending cases in consumer redressal forums, ranking the state fourth in the nation for consumer case backlog. Additionally, in family courts across 50 jurisdictions in Gujarat, more than 50,000 cases remain unresolved, with approximately 161 new cases being filed daily, leading to a backlog increase of roughly 60 percent in the past year.
The Gujarat government is intensifying its efforts to tackle the backlog of complaints and pending cases while reinforcing governance systems. Through the SWAGAT (State-Wide Attention on Grievances by Application of Technology) portal, the state has addressed over 27,600 complaints since November 2021, boasting a resolution rate close to 90 percent.
A dedicated visitor management system launched in January 2023 enables citizens to meet the Chief Minister and submit grievances directly, achieving an 83 percent resolution rate.
The government has mandated that any application left pending in a government office without a valid reason will lead to strict action against the responsible officials.
These initiatives reflect Gujarat’s commitment to digital-first, citizen-centric governance aimed at reducing backlog, enhancing transparency, and rebuilding public trust.
