Gurugram, April 27 (NationPress) The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has recently levied a hefty fine of Rs 2.75 crore against two private agencies due to their failure to meet waste disposal targets at the Bandhwari landfill site.
During a recent inspection of the landfill, Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel directed these agencies to ensure the disposal of 20,000 tons of waste each day over the next ten days.
As reported by MCG officials, the Corporation has assigned two contracts valued at Rs 84 crore to these agencies for waste management at Bandhwari.
One agency is responsible for disposing of 8,000 tons daily, while the other must manage 12,000 tons. Currently, both agencies are only handling 2,000 to 3,000 tons of waste.
Following a review conducted last month, MCG fined Adarsh Agency Rs 96.30 lakh and Green Tech Rs 1.74 crore.
During his visit, the Minister emphasized that both agencies must adhere to the daily target of 20,000 tons for waste disposal within the next ten days.
Should they fail to comply, further penalties will be imposed, and any fines from the National Green Tribunal due to their negligence will need to be covered by the agencies.
Both agencies commenced operations on March 20, and all waste at the site must be cleared by July 20.
The landfill currently holds over 12 lakh tons of garbage.
Initially, the agencies managed to dispose of only 1,200 to 1,300 tons of waste daily.
Now, they are required to increase their disposal to 2,000 to 3,000 tons daily.
MCG officials have ordered the installation of additional machinery at the landfill to facilitate better waste management.
Nijesh Kumar, Executive Engineer at MCG, stated, "Due to not meeting the disposal targets, Rs 96.30 lakh has been fined on one agency and Rs 1.74 crore on another. If they fail to meet targets in the coming days, more fines will follow."
