Guwahati, June 13 (NationPress) An 18-year-old girl has mysteriously vanished from the Basistha area of Guwahati since the early hours of Friday morning.
The girl, identified as Khushi Kumari, left her home around 8:30 a.m. to open their family shop but did not return.
Concerned by her absence, her family hurried to the shop, only to find her personal items—a bracelet, hair clip, bag, and shop key—scattered on the ground.
Fearing the possibility of abduction, the family suspects foul play.
A complaint has been formally filed at the Basistha Police Station.
The police have commenced an investigation and are carrying out search operations to locate the missing teenager.
As public anger escalates, calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe intensify regarding the suspicious death of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai from Assam. The Uttarakhand Police have currently ruled out foul play, indicating that initial evidence suggests suicide.
Officials from the Shivpuri Police Station in Tehri Garhwal district stated that early findings indicate Rosmita may have taken her own life.
"Thus far, no signs of foul play have been identified. While we lean towards suicide, the investigation remains ongoing. The post-mortem examination has taken place, but the final report is still pending," said police officials.
Hojai, a young woman from the Dimasa community in Assam's Dima Hasao district, was last seen on June 5 while traveling to Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination.
Her body was found five days later, on June 10, close to a riverbank in Pauri Garhwal district. In relation to the case, police have detained two suspects for questioning—Hemant Sharma of Mohindergarh (Delhi) and Pankaj Kokar from Rohtak, Haryana.
Investigators revealed that Hojai had a verbal confrontation with her alleged boyfriend, Hemant, at the location where her body was eventually recovered.
"She had come to take a competitive exam—a naturally stressful situation. The argument with Hemant may have impacted her mental state. However, any definitive conclusion will depend on the autopsy report, which is expected in the coming days," a police official stated.
