Gwalior, June 26 (NationPress) On Thursday, Gwalior witnessed a significant milestone in its railway history as Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North-Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the much-awaited Gwalior-Bengaluru Express. This development marks a substantial enhancement in the connectivity between Madhya Pradesh's core and Bengaluru, known as India's technology hub.
The Union Minister emphasized that the newly launched service will serve approximately 40 lakh residents, providing them with direct access to improved rail transportation.
He noted that the train will stop at crucial stations such as Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Bina, and Bhopal, thereby ensuring widespread regional advantages and better mobility across central Madhya Pradesh.
The inauguration event at Gwalior Railway Station was conducted in a hybrid format, with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw participating virtually.
Minister Scindia, also the Member of Parliament from Guna, rode on the inaugural train service to Ashoknagar, making scheduled stops at Shivpuri and Guna.
During his journey, he interacted with passengers and residents, referring to the train as “a bridge of opportunity for over 40 lakh individuals” across Madhya Pradesh.
The daily express service is expected to start from Bengaluru on June 29 and from Gwalior on July 4, with the train departing Gwalior at 3:00 PM and reaching SMVT (Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal) Bengaluru at 7:35 AM on the third day.

During the event, Minister Scindia mentioned that Gwalior's new airport terminal is nearing completion, alongside extensive redevelopment efforts at the city's railway station.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the transformative investment since 2014, stating, “Railway allocation to Madhya Pradesh has surged from Rs 600 crore to Rs 14,747 crore,” adding that 2,651 km of new rail lines and modernization of 80 stations — including Gwalior — are underway.
He also hinted at a potential “Gwalior–Agra passenger service”.
In his speech, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised Gwalior’s development trajectory, emphasizing its growing role in national progress.
He announced that the Rs 8,500 crore Mumbai rail corridor would transform infrastructure in the Chambal-Malwa region.
CM Yadav projected Gwalior as an upcoming center for semiconductors, electronics, and petrochemicals, underscoring the city’s potential leadership in industry, education, agriculture, and employment.
