New Delhi, Oct 24 (NationPress) The inaugural Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) Series Production aircraft, TH 4001, which is set to train the upcoming generation of Air Warriors, successfully took to the skies at the HAL facility in Bengaluru on Friday, according to a statement from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
In a post on X, HAL stated, “The HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft is a thoroughly aerobatic, tandem-seat, turboprop aircraft engineered to deliver basic flight training, aerobatics, instrument flying, and night flying capabilities.”
The Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT)-40 is an ab-initio trainer aircraft crafted to fulfill primary training needs.
This fully aerobatic, tandem-seat turbo trainer will be equipped with an air-conditioned cockpit, cutting-edge avionics, hot refueling capability, swift pilot changeover, and zero-zero ejection seats.
Engineered around a reliable turboprop engine, this aircraft is designed to demonstrate excellent low-speed handling characteristics, thereby enhancing training efficiency. It will receive certification to the FAR-23 Standard.
The trainer aircraft can achieve a maximum speed of 450 kilometers per hour and reach a maximum service ceiling of six kilometers.
The HTT-40 took its first flight on May 31, 2016, and attained system-level certification on June 6, 2022.
Previously, the IAF entered into a contract with HAL for the delivery of 70 aircraft, with the induction initially scheduled to begin on September 15, 2025, and continue until March 15, 2030.
The HTT-40 is expected to significantly improve the training quality for ab-initio pilots in the Indian Armed Forces.
The procurement will also encompass a Full Mission Simulator for the aircraft, enhancing aerial training by allowing pilots to rehearse various profiles on the ground before actual sorties, as noted by an official.
The HTT-40 represents another important stride towards achieving greater self-reliance in the defense and aviation sectors, in alignment with the government's vision of 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat'.
Notably, on October 17, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of self-reliance in the defense industry, stating, “We can no longer restrict ourselves to just the LCA Tejas or HTT-40. It’s time to carve out our identity in next-generation aircraft, unmanned systems, and civil aviation.”
“I am fully confident that HAL Nashik will play a crucial role in these domains in the future. Today, we prioritize advanced, indigenous technologies. I am delighted to observe Hindustan Aeronautics Limited representing India strongly in this regard,” added the Defence Minister.
