Chandigarh, Nov 12 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recognized Indian female cricketer Shafali Verma by presenting her with a cheque of Rs 1.50 crore and a Grade-A gradation certificate in acknowledgment of her remarkable achievements.
The Haryana State Commission for Women has also designated Shafali Verma as its Brand Ambassador. She was a crucial player in the 2025 World Cup-winning Women’s Cricket Team.
This award was conferred at the Chief Minister's residence, in the presence of Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel and Shafali Verma’s family members, including her grandfather, father, and brother.
The Chief Minister honored her with a memento and a shawl, expressing heartfelt congratulations to Shafali Verma and her family. He emphasized that Haryana is a sports hub and that the daughters of the region have brought immense pride to the nation on an international scale.
He noted that the daughter of Haryana played an essential role in the World Cup final, contributing significantly to India’s victory. Saini remarked that Shafali Verma has elevated the honor of her family, her state, and her country.
“She serves as an inspiration for youth nationwide. The state government is rolling out various initiatives to support athletes. Approximately 2,000 sports nurseries have been established throughout the state to nurture young talent and offer them opportunities to shine. The government is fully committed to the youth,” stated the Chief Minister.
He also mentioned the government's awareness campaigns, which include marathons and cyclothons, aimed at motivating the youth to steer clear of drugs.
The Chief Minister discussed Shafali Verma's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Expressing her appreciation to the state government, the cricketer shared her joy about winning the World Cup. “This victory is not solely our team's achievement but belongs to every woman cricketer,” she expressed, adding that the land of Haryana is conducive to sports, and its citizens actively promote athletic endeavors.
