Chandigarh, Jan 6 (NationPress) Haryana is on the verge of unveiling India's inaugural hydrogen-powered train, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to officiate the ceremony later this month.
This ambitious initiative by Northern Railway is nearing completion, set to operate between Jind and Sonipat.
A reliable and consistent 11 KV power supply has been secured for the hydrogen facility established in Jind, which will fuel the train during both its commissioning and regular service.
On Tuesday, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi conducted a hybrid meeting with officials from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) to assess the project's progress.
The session included comprehensive discussions on the current power supply status, backup solutions, and future needs.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of ongoing evaluations of the power supply system to avoid interruptions in this groundbreaking project.
He underscored the need for enhanced alternative solutions and swift response strategies. The meeting revealed that India's largest hydrogen facility, boasting a storage capability of 3,000 kg, has been set up in Jind for this hydrogen train initiative and is now in its final commissioning stage.
As the plant will operate continuously, an uninterrupted and quality power supply is paramount. The Rs 120-crore hydrogen gas facility will generate hydrogen via electrolysis to power what the Railways claims is the world's most potent hydrogen train set on a broad gauge platform.
During the meeting, DHBVN officials assured the Chief Secretary that a stable power supply is being delivered to the plant, with additional monitoring and rapid maintenance protocols in place if required.
Northern Railway also expressed satisfaction with the quality of power supply being provided to the facility, according to a statement from the state government.
The meeting included participation from DHBVN Managing Director Vikram Yadav via video conference, alongside Chief Engineer Rajender Sabharwal.
