Haryana to Strengthen Afforestation Efforts in Aravallis, According to Minister

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (NationPress) Haryana Forest and Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Thursday revealed plans to enhance environmental sustainability by initiating the Aravalli Green Wall Project, inspired by Saudi Arabia's greening efforts.

This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of strengthening the bond between communities and nature through campaigns like 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.

After a five-day trip to Saudi Arabia, the minister praised the nation’s success in turning arid regions into flourishing green spaces. Motivated by this achievement, the Central government has tasked Haryana with spearheading the Aravalli Green Wall Project.

The project will span over 1.15 million hectares across four states—Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi—showcasing an outstanding example of interstate collaboration. The goal is to promote afforestation using native tree species, preserve biodiversity, enhance soil quality, and increase groundwater recharge.

The minister highlighted that this initiative will generate green job opportunities for local populations in the Aravalli region, fostering sustainable livelihoods while encouraging environmental responsibility.

In Haryana, the state has designated Van Mitras to educate the younger generation about the significance of environmental protection and sustainable practices.

The Van Mitras are also engaged in strengthening local involvement in forest conservation efforts, thereby promoting ecological integrity and community resilience.

A delegation from Haryana, led by Rao Narbir Singh, has recently returned from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) or COP16, which is currently taking place in Riyadh.

Before his departure, the minister stated that Prime Minister Modi is undertaking historic initiatives to combat climate change as part of his vision for a developed India by 2047.

He stressed that developed nations should offer technical and financial assistance to developing countries to make the fight against climate change more effective.

He mentioned that programs like the National Solar Mission and the Jal Jeevan Mission, initiated under the Prime Minister’s leadership, are making significant progress.

He reiterated that India is fully dedicated to fulfilling the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
