Chandigarh, July 23 (NationPress) In a bid to enhance environmental sustainability and cultivate a healthier planet, Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Wednesday that the state has set an ambitious goal of planting 2.10 crore saplings this year. He urged citizens to ensure that every household plants at least one tree during the monsoon season. “With the support of our community, I am confident that we will exceed this target once again,” stated the Chief Minister.
During the inaugural phase of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, the state has successfully planted 1.87 crore saplings, surpassing the initial target of 1.60 crore saplings.
CM Saini made these remarks while addressing the state-level Van Mahotsav event in Morni, located in the Panchkula district. He also revealed that the saplings planted by the Forest Department will be geo-tagged and monitored annually using drone technology, with their growth tracked for up to five years. This effort aims to significantly increase the forest cover in Haryana. Since October 2014, approximately 18 crore saplings have been planted throughout the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister introduced two booklets published by the Forests and Wildlife Department, which concentrate on herbal vatika and the establishment of nature trails to encourage eco-tourism in the Morni area.
In response to requests from Kalka MLA Shakti Rani Sharma, the Chief Minister assured that all development-related requests would be addressed following comprehensive feasibility studies. Saini reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in environmental conservation, emphasizing that it is not solely the government's duty.
Moreover, the government has initiated the Pranavayu Devta Pension Scheme to honor trees older than 75 years. This program allocates an annual pension of Rs 3,000 per tree for their upkeep. To date, Rs 1 crore has been credited to the accounts of caregivers for 3,800 trees under this initiative. Additionally, herbal parks have been developed across several districts to help conserve and promote medicinal plants.
