How Did the Indian Diaspora in London Welcome PM Modi?

London, July 24 (NationPress) The Indian community in London greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with enthusiastic chants of 'Modi, Modi', 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', and 'Vande Mataram' as he arrived in the UK on Wednesday evening for a momentous two-day visit focused on finalizing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and revitalizing the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Members of the Indian diaspora showcased their fervor by holding banners and dancing in traditional attire as PM Modi made his way to the hotel in London.

Prior to his arrival, artists donned in cultural garments entertained the crowd with dhol music.

Expressing joy at meeting the Prime Minister, one diaspora member shared with IANS, "We are incredibly proud, and tears of joy still fill my eyes. The happiness he brought while interacting with us was overwhelming."

Another individual remarked, "Meeting PM Modi for the first time was a dream come true. His initiatives for India, like digitization and the successful Operation Sindoor, are commendable. The energy he brings is magnetic, and I always feel proud returning home."

One community member described the atmosphere as "absolutely electrifying", stating that PM Modi resembled a saint in his powerful presence, which contributes to his popularity.

Another enthusiast mentioned, "It always feels wonderful when PM Modi visits. He strengthens the bond between the UK and India and brings a wave of positivity. I am hopeful he will achieve something remarkable this time too."

Describing his inspiration, another member said, "PM Modi is an extraordinary person, and I am thrilled to have met him today. His energy truly inspires us all."

PM Modi's visit to the UK, taking place from July 23 to 24, comes at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and marks his fourth visit to the country.

In a message before departure, PM Modi stated, "I am heading to the UK, where our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has gained significant momentum in recent years. I am eager to engage in discussions with PM Keir Starmer and meet His Majesty King Charles III."

The visit aims to review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with emphasis on trade, economy, technology, innovation, defense, climate, health, education, and people-to-people connections, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Topics will also include regional and global issues of shared interest.

This visit is anticipated to inject fresh momentum into the India-UK CSP, with both leaders looking to evaluate progress and explore new areas of collaboration, including the India-UK FTA.

PM Modi is also expected to meet King Charles III during his stay.

The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this visit builds on the ongoing high-level interactions between the two nations. PM Modi and PM Starmer have met twice already—once in Brazil at the G20 Summit and again at the G7 in June 2025—alongside several phone discussions.
