Bengaluru, Dec 1 (NationPress) Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar announced that he has requested an audience with the Union Jal Shakti and Environment Minister to address Karnataka's irrigation initiatives. He expressed his willingness to travel to Delhi if he secures an appointment.
During a press conference in Bengaluru, he remarked, “All BJP Members of Parliament from Karnataka should advocate for our state. They are elected representatives and must prioritize our interests. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy mentioned he would convene a delegation. If he is willing to assist us in Delhi, we should entrust him with this responsibility. It is essential to visit Delhi before the Assembly session commences. Tomorrow, we will discuss this matter with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”
He responded to inquiries regarding his discussions with Union ministers concerning Mekedatu and other irrigation projects.

At an event held at Vidhana Soudha to present the Gandhi Grama awards and launch e-swathu 2.0, Deputy CM Shivakumar voiced his grievances about the Centre's perceived discriminatory treatment towards Karnataka in various schemes, including MGNREGA and the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He added, “The Central government is attempting to reduce funding for projects like MGNREGA since it was initiated by the Congress party. In 2021, the MGNREGA grant was 14.65 crore man-days, which has now decreased to 9 crore man-days, marking a 40% decline. The state's funding dropped from Rs 5,910 crore in 2021 to Rs 2,691 crore this year.”
“Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, both the Centre and State are required to contribute 45% each, with the remaining 10% sourced from the public. Last year, the state allocated Rs 3,700 crore, but the Centre has yet to release any funds,” he indicated.
While laying the groundwork for Phase 1 of the Integrated Solid Waste Segregation Plant at Kannahalli on Magadi Main Road, Shivakumar remarked, “The garbage mafia has done everything possible to obstruct my initiatives. However, we are determined to implement garbage disposal through 33 packages without yielding to fear. My goal is to transform waste into wealth.”
“These 33 packages have received judicial approval and will commence operations shortly. My repeated reference to the ‘garbage mafia’ stems from their attempts to sabotage at every step, securing stay orders and coercing the government. They believed the government must heed their demands. We have put an end to this,” he asserted.
“I am committed to resolving Bengaluru's garbage crisis. Volunteers from Hasiru Dala are undertaking exceptionally challenging work. In various city areas, individuals indiscriminately discard garbage and construction debris. To address this, we have installed CCTV cameras and are enforcing fines. Police have issued notifications to vehicles illegally disposing of waste,” he concluded.
