New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, on Sunday reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring "health for all" and to further enhance public health institutions, aiming to create a healthier, stronger, and more resilient India.

While virtually presiding over the 48th annual day celebration of the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), Nadda praised the institute for being a pioneer in facilitating training, research, and capacity-building initiatives for public health professionals, policymakers, and administrators across the nation.

Operating under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the institute serves as an apex technical institute and a think tank for the advancement of health and family welfare programs in the country.

Nadda emphasized that the Institute's commitment to capacity-building is clearly demonstrated through the introduction of Doctoral and Master's programs in public health, addressing the pressing need for skilled professionals.

The research initiatives by the NIHFW, along with the evaluation of various government programs, have significantly aided in formulating evidence-based policies, he noted.

The Union Minister also congratulated the NIHFW for its impactful research activities and the online platform, SAKSHAM-Media Lab for Digital Learning, which produces health-related content, showcasing the Institute's resolve to modernize health education outreach.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, mentioned that since 2014, the number of medical colleges has increased from 387 to 780 (an impressive 101% rise), while the number of AIIMS has expanded from 6 to 22, signifying the enhancement of the healthcare ecosystem.

The nation has embarked on a new chapter in the public health landscape, guided by the National Health Policy 2017 and the execution of schemes such as Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the establishment of Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, she highlighted.

Through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), a remarkable transformation has been seen in the lives of ordinary citizens, as out-of-pocket expenses have significantly decreased due to low-cost medications available through AMRIT Pharmacies nationwide.

Patel also emphasized that “we are working not only with a curative approach but also focusing on preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative healthcare strategies in the country.”
