Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has declared Orange and Yellow alerts, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various districts of Tamil Nadu on March 11 due to a cyclonic circulation over the sea.

This weather system is anticipated to provide relief from the intense heat in the southern districts, resulting in a slight decrease in maximum temperatures over the upcoming days.

An upper-air cyclonic circulation is located over the northeast Equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal, reaching up to 5.8 km above sea level. Moreover, a weaker circulation over the interior regions of Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km has weakened, but it is predicted to cause rainfall across the state starting Monday.

Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi districts, prompting an Orange alert for these areas.

A Yellow alert has been issued for Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram. A thunderstorm warning has also been issued for isolated locations in Tamil Nadu over the next three days.

Chennai and its suburbs may encounter mist or haze during the early morning hours for the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms, is anticipated on March 10 and 11. The maximum temperature is projected to range between 33 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations over the next two days.

In light of the weather alert, the state government is contemplating declaring holidays for schools and colleges in affected districts on March 10. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions and remain indoors during heavy rainfall. Officials will closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through local news and weather alerts.

While some regions of Tamil Nadu prepare for heavy rain, the coastal and interior areas persist in facing extreme heat. Chennai has recently recorded its hottest day of the season. The RMC has cautioned that maximum temperatures in certain regions may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

From March 13 onward, dry weather is anticipated across the state, with no significant fluctuations in maximum temperatures for the next three days.
