Bhopal, July 1 (NationPress) Betul MLA Hemant Vijay Khandelwal is set to assume the role of the new president of the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), having been elected unopposed. The official announcement is anticipated soon, with the outcome becoming evident during the nomination process at the party's headquarters in Bhopal on Tuesday. In a moment indicating strong leadership support, BJP state organisation general secretary Hitanand Sharma directed Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, who then personally guided Khandelwal to the stage.
The Chief Minister formally nominated him for the key organisational role, solidifying Khandelwal’s status as the top candidate. Khandelwal, seated prominently between ministers Virendra Khatik and Gopal Bhargava, quickly responded to the signal and approached the dais. He submitted his nomination papers before Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is overseeing the election, along with election officer Vivek Shejwalkar and party observer Saroj Pandey.
The nomination event saw attendance from several senior BJP leaders; however, notable absentees included figures like Kailash Vijayvargiya, Narottam Mishra, Kamal Patel, and Sudhir Gupta.
The formal announcement of Khandelwal’s unopposed election is expected during a crucial meeting of the BJP state organisation scheduled for 10:30 am on Wednesday. His ascension occurs as incumbent president and Khajuraho MP Vishnu Dutt Sharma wraps up his second term, having led the party since 2020.
Khandelwal is perceived to have the support of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and enjoys wide backing within the party’s state leadership. Although other contenders such as Sagar MP Lata Wankhede and tribal leaders Durgadas Uikey and Gajendra Patel were also discussed, the consensus appears to favor Khandelwal. The selection process involved 379 eligible voters, including MPs, MLAs, and senior party officials.
With only one nomination submitted, the way was cleared for an uncontested election. Khandelwal’s appointment is expected to influence the BJP’s organisational strategy as it gears up for upcoming electoral contests in Madhya Pradesh.
