New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) In a devastating event, a landslide claimed the lives of 18 passengers when a private bus was struck in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday. President Droupadi Murmu expressed her heartfelt condolences to the victims' families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.
"The report of multiple fatalities in a bus accident due to a landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, is profoundly tragic. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the prompt recovery of those injured," President Murmu conveyed on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also voiced his sympathies to those affected by the tragedy, announcing a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the families of each deceased, while the injured would receive Rs. 50,000.
"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the mishap in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this trying period. I am praying for the quick recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided to the kin of each departed. Those injured will receive Rs. 50,000: PM," the PMO stated on X.
Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his sympathies, praying for the recovery of the injured.
"I am profoundly saddened by the bus accident caused by a landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. NDRF teams have arrived at the scene and are conducting rescue operations. I extend my condolences to those who have lost loved ones. I also pray for the rapid healing of the injured," stated HM Amit Shah on X.
Officials have reported that at least 18 passengers lost their lives when a private bus was hit by a landslide in Bilaspur, the home district of BJP national President J.P. Nadda, on Tuesday.
The region has been experiencing sporadic rainfall since Monday.
The incident occurred in the Bhalughat area within the Jhandutta Assembly segment.
Approximately 35 passengers were aboard the bus, which was en route from Marotan to Ghumarwin.
State officials and machinery have been dispatched to clear the debris, and a rescue operation is ongoing to find any missing individuals.
As of now, authorities have recovered 18 bodies from the wreckage of the bus.
Eyewitnesses reported that the mountain collapsed onto the bus, leaving little hope for the passengers' survival.
