Shimla, March 26 (NationPress) The government of Himachal Pradesh has officially entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to improve the quality of education in the state, as stated by government officials.

The agreement was executed by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar on behalf of the state and UNESCO Director Tim Curtis along with Chief of Education Program Specialist Joyce Poan representing the organisation, in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

This partnership aims to assist Himachal Pradesh in modernising its educational framework by enhancing teaching methodologies, curricula, teacher training, and assessment systems, thereby preparing students with essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

An important aspect of this collaboration will focus on making education more inclusive, sustainable, and future-oriented.

The agreement also prioritises 'Greening Education', which aims to integrate environmental awareness and sustainable development into school curricula, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address climate change and environmental challenges.

Moreover, the initiative will promote value-based education through sports to nurture holistic development.

Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the state government's commitment to educational reforms, stating that efforts are being made to transform government schools into smart schools by enhancing digital learning infrastructure and ensuring quality education reaches remote areas.

He noted that the government has implemented numerous reforms in the education sector over the past two years, yielding positive results.

State Education Minister Rohit Thakur highlighted that this partnership with UNESCO signifies the state's commitment to delivering global-standard education and equipping students with future-ready skills.
