Shimla, Oct 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, stated on Monday that the Himachal Pradesh Human Development Report - 2025 showcases the state’s progress, resilience, and the aspirations of its people.
Despite facing challenging geographical and climatic conditions, the report, unveiled by him, narrates an inspiring tale of development, fueled by the unwavering determination and diligence of the populace.
“We take immense pride in the fact that the Human Development Report - 2025 indicates an average Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.78 for Himachal Pradesh, surpassing the national average of 0.63,” the Chief Minister remarked.
He further noted that the state has recently achieved full literacy status, boasting a literacy rate of 99.30%.
In a recent national assessment, Himachal ranked fifth in the nation for reading and writing skills, a remarkable leap from its previous position at 21st in 2021. Additionally, the state has successfully reduced its infant mortality rate to 21 per 1,000 live births, a testament to the effectiveness of its healthcare system.
CM Sukhu emphasized that the government has invested not only in infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and horticulture but also in essential areas such as education, health, women’s empowerment, elderly care, and rural development to lay a robust foundation for the future.
He highlighted that the life expectancy in the state has now reached 72 years, symbolizing the success of the healthcare framework. Furthermore, the poverty rate has dropped significantly to below 7%. These accomplishments reflect the government's unwavering commitment to holistic and inclusive development.
Himachal Pradesh has also become the first hill state to implement a comprehensive electric vehicle policy, setting a benchmark. The objective is to electrify public transportation by 2030 to meet its ‘green targets’.
