Jaipur, August 19 (NationPress) Lok Sabha Speaker and MP from Kota-Bundi Om Birla stated on Tuesday that the Union government's endorsement of the Greenfield Airport Project marks a monumental day for the region.
“This is a monumental day for the Kota-Bundi parliamentary constituency. The sanctioning of the Greenfield Airport will enhance the connectivity not just for the Hadoti area, but for Rajasthan and North India as a whole,” he expressed.
He emphasized that this initiative will unlock numerous avenues for tourism, trade, investment, and job opportunities.
The Speaker further noted that it will transform the region into a new center of air traffic and economic activity.
“Endless congratulations to Kota-Bundi and all the residents of Rajasthan. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for this visionary initiative,” he added.
Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) proposal for the establishment of a Greenfield Airport at Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan, with an estimated investment of Rs 1,507 crore.
Nestled along the banks of the Chambal River, Kota is recognized as the industrial capital of Rajasthan and is also celebrated nationwide as the Educational Coaching Hub.
The region's increasing significance in both industry and education has underscored the necessity for modern air connectivity as a critical infrastructure component.
In support of this advancement, the Government of Rajasthan has allocated 440.06 hectares of land to AAI.
The forthcoming airport will accommodate A-321 type aircraft and is designed with future expansion in mind. Key features include a Terminal Building of 20,000 sqm, capable of managing 1,000 peak hour passengers and 2 million passengers per annum (MPPA), a runway measuring 3200m x 45m, seven parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, and associated facilities.
The existing Kota Airport, managed by AAI, has a limited capacity with a runway of 1220m x 38m and a terminal area of only 400 sqm, which can accommodate only small Code 'B' aircraft like the DO-228.
Due to constraints in land availability and dense urbanization, the current airport cannot be expanded to fulfill commercial aviation demands, making the Greenfield project vital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “Many congratulations to my family members of Rajasthan for the new airport! Our government has approved the development of a Greenfield Airport in Kota-Bundi. This will facilitate air travel for individuals across the nation and will foster tourism and employment.
