Jaipur, Sep 4 (NationPress) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday praised the GST Council’s decision to lower tax slabs as a 'monumental advancement' that will enhance the livelihoods of millions, stimulate commerce, and offer immediate relief to the general public.
Speaking with reporters in the Vidhan Sabha, CM Sharma conveyed his appreciation for this historic decision made under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"This initiative will primarily benefit the common man, farmers, and the economically disadvantaged, while also invigorating the economy. On behalf of the 8 crore residents of Rajasthan, I express my sincere thanks to Prime Minister Modi, who prioritizes the needs of the people, including roti, kapda, aur makaan. By reducing GST rates, PM Modi has made significant strides for the poor, business owners, and workers. This upcoming Diwali will be particularly meaningful as it is the underprivileged who will gain the most," CM Sharma remarked.
The GST Council meeting, led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, resolved to eliminate the 12 percent and 28 percent tax brackets, maintaining only two brackets — 5 percent and 18 percent. According to CM Sharma, this change will streamline the tax framework, simplify compliance, and provide a boost to the economy.
“Previously, there were four slabs; now there are just two. The middle class, small enterprises, and everyday families will see the benefits. Life will be easier, and the economy will gain new momentum. The double-engine government is consistently striving for the welfare of its citizens. I extend my thanks to PM Modi and FM Nirmala Sitharaman for initiating this transformation,” the CM added.
The state government noted that the revamped GST framework is expected to lessen the financial burden on consumers, fortify MSMEs and small businesses, and entice new investments and commercial prospects. Farmers, women, and the youth are anticipated to gain directly from lower prices and improved market accessibility.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister stated that this decision reflects PM Modi’s vision of advancing both India and its states while ensuring that reforms remain centered on the common man.
“This is not merely a tax reform; it is a strategy for empowerment, job creation, and economic advancement,” Sharma concluded.
